the time when you pay attention to a particular issue makes you ignore most of other issues. does that means human cannot think of many things at the same time. human are bad at multitasking? it's true that multitasking reduces productivity as you are juggling between a few task and not paying full attention to one thing. as if right now i am actually multitasking - having a book at my side, a video to watch and some loose papers also to be read. so no serious effort is made to finish up any of the task and time is passing just to get done with some of the task. getting done is not measured with the amount of time you put in to do it because you could be sitting 3-4 hours holding a textbook and not learning anything. I read somewhere that rote memorizing is useless when it comes to studying. usually anything that feels easy to do will most likely not benefit that much. so always start with the hardest ones.
what makes you pay attention to one thing but not the other.
one might actually pay more attention to what he knows best. my mechanical design professor used to say that to solve a problem, one would use the approach he's most comfortable with. a design failure analysis from a material science guy and a mechanical guys could be totally different. as the human capacity/knowledge is limited, the approach would not be that accurate.
sometimes one need something to struck him to make him pay attention to something. be it an event or just some random talk with a stranger. it increases the information about the situation and changes the perception. that leads to change in probability of our choices that could be illustrated by a probability tree. you could relate this to conditional probability and relevant/irrelevant. two things are relevant if knowing the first event changes the probability of the second event. hah stats class. i'm not sure why but they taught us decision analysis in my statistics class.
about the strike of a happening or pencetus. something that made us ponder. sometimes we already know what is going on but we are just unsure of the future results. the potential results are so many and different. the ability to anticipate is just different for different people. one of the things they ask in a survey for a job interview is how much you feel good about knowing exactly what you're doing/having control over your own life. i'm not sure what the result is suppose to show the personality. so knowing the anticipated/potential results sometimes doesn't made us act to cater for the results. it might be because of the probability we assigned on the event based on our lack of knowledge. or it could be something that limit us to act on some of the potential events.
one choice is to act like all the potentials have the same probability of happening. but this is another decision to be made upon some information we have. to get to this realization, one might need to seek help. help from others with someone who is more informed. there's a passage in the quran saying something like if you don't know something ask those with knowledge('ilm). so reach out. this would depends on who you know and what do you think is the possible source of help.
another choice is to take a risk and focus on one of the choice and acted upon it to make sure the result is what you want it to be. this is easier said than done. at the end, you could learn a lot of things from it as it is not certain for what is going to happen no matter what you have done. depending on the progress of the situation, one might or might not change the course of actions taken.
wow.
i wasn't planning to write this long
maybe this could be relate to the world we construct around us. with the vast information available to us, it is really us who decides what is going in and what is going out. this is like TOK i don't know why.
teringat ayat sibghah Allah. celupan Allah.
do not afraid to try, the outcome will give you answers.
passive and active seekers of knowledge. facebook could affect the construction of the world/sources/knowledge
in heat transfer, bernoulli's equation, euler's equation and comtinuity equation cannot be used without assuming mass conservation, frictionless, irrotational and incompressible fluid flow etc.
actually I could have learn a lot more in mechanical design class particularly the art of engineering. it's not the yield strength that tell you the number that a structure will fail. it's how you take it. the constraints you made on the model.
